ITEMS REQUIRED:
Copper sulphate crystals-One copper strip (about 3”X2”)-One brass key or brass nail-One battery 4.5 volt-Insulated copper wire- One glass or plastic jar or beaker
PROCEDURE:
Take a glass or plastic jar. Fill it three-fourth with warm water. Dissolve some copper sulphate crystals in it so that a blue-coloured solution is obtained. Take one copper strip, make a small hole in it and connect it to the positive terminal of the battery with an enameled copper wire. Clean the brass door key or nail and connect it to the negative terminal of the battery with the copper wire. Dip both the items in the copper sulphate solution in the jar as shown in the figure. After a few minutes, you will see that a fine layer of copper gets deposited on the door key. When the key is copper plated completely, remove it and wash it with water.
